Fourteen year old Kingston upon Hull swimmer Aaron Jackson is enjoying a fantastic 2010. Aaron, who has learning difficulties, competes for the Club in the National and Regional Disability Championships.
Aaron kicked off the year in January when he represented the Club in the Yorkshire and Humberside DSE Regional Disability Championships at the Hydro Pool in Harrogate. Aaron who was competing against swimmers older than him collected four silver medals in the 50 metres free, fly and 100 metres individual medley and freestyle events.
In March Aaron stepped up a level and swam in the 14-18 years age group at the National DSE swimming championships held in Sheffield. His swims were equally impressive finishing in fourth place in the 100 metres freestyle, 100 metres individual medley and the 50 metres breaststroke, but his best swim was in the 50 metres butterfly where he collected a silver medal.
As a result of his impressive performances this year, Aaron has been selected for inclusion on the ASA North East Regional Talent Programme. The Regional Talent Programme underpins the World Class Talent Programme for Disability Swimming. The programme will provide opportunities for the swimmer and the coach to develop the swimmers potential talent and progress to the highest level possible. As an athlete on the Regional Talent Programme both the swimmer and the coach will be given opportunities to receive support, including home programme visits and a possible Regional Talent Day run by a designated coach.
