Rachael Williamson and Kingston Upon Hull swimming club were today celebrating as Rachael found out she has been selected as part of a squad of 39 of Britain's top junior swimmers which will represent the country as they take on Europe's elite at the LEN European Junior Championships.
The British Junior Swimming team, powered British Gas, will travel to Helsinki, Finland from 14th – 18th July to compete for European pride.
A total of 12 swimmers will be competing in their second European Junior Championship and they will be aiming to develop their experience of high-level competition.
The swimmers were selected at the British Gas Swimming Championships, which took place earlier this month, where the athletes impressed with some strong performances.
There was a tougher selection policy this year. As we get closer to the London 2012 Olympics all teams are becoming more directed to Championship performances. Our hope for Helsinki is that this will be a smaller, more medal focused group.
Head Coach Chris Martin commented: “In any competition, experience is preferred. In age group meets such as the European Juniors experience is hard to find and it is our hope that the twelve second timers will not only swim better but they will also bring their experience to the rest of the group.
The selection is just reward for Rachael's hard work and commitment that she shows in training and all the coaches and staff at Kingston Upon Hull Swimming Club are delighted with Rachael's latest achievement.
