On Sunday 6th June the Kingston-upon-Hull Swimming Club's Regional Development Squad, under the watchful eye of Coach Graham Martin, attended the York City Baths Club Yorvik meet at Ennerdale. The squad enjoyed a successful gala with all twelve swimmers achieving at least one personal best time.

The 12 year olds had a good day, with Ben Annis setting new personal bests in all 6 races in which he competed and taking a six place medal in the 100m individual medley in which he knocked a massive 14 seconds from his previous time. But his best result of the day was bronze in the 200m freestyle in which he smashed his submitted time by 7 seconds. Zoe Webster, representing the 12 year old girls, also swam very well, achieving new personal bests in all 5 of her swims and taking three medals; 6th in the 50m freestyle, 5th in the 100m IM and third in the 200m freestyle. Starting in the fastest heat of a race, i.e. In the 200m freestyle, was a new experience for both these young swimmers and they certainly rose to the challenge!

The 13/14-year-old age group contained 5 Hull swimmers. Dale Ferriby, representing the boys, had 5 good swims, with personal bests in the 50m breast, 100m IM, 50m butterfly and 50m back, taking silver in the backstroke event. The girls; Emma Beadle, sisters Maria and Isabella Moore, and Jessica Kelsey, all performed exceptionally well in the 100m individual medley. Each swimmer took between 8 and 14 seconds from their submitted time. Isabella also bettered her 50m breaststroke time by nearly 8 seconds, posting a time of 46.49. Jess and Maria each obtained 2 personal bests and Emma competed very well in 6 events, achieving 6 personal bests and taking a silver medal in the 200m freestyle with a time of 2:32.63.

In the over 15 years age group twins Josie and Kate Murray had successful swims, with Kate taking silver medals, in the 50m fly, 50m back and 100m individual medley and bronze in the 50m freestyle and Josie achieving bronze in the 50m back, 50m breast and 100m IM. Eleanor Johnstone is also to be congratulated as she took 3 silver medals, 50m free, 200m free and 50m breast. In the boys events Dale Booth shone in the 100m IM and 200m freestyle, being rewarded for his efforts with 2 speeding tickets, and took silver in the 50m breast, whilst Liam Webster took gold in the 100m IM and silver in the 50m back.
