The Kingston Upon Hull regional qualifying open meet at the weekend provided the swimming club from this area the last chance to gain their North East Region Qualifying times.
The gala which featured the 50m and the 200m events proved extremely popular, so much so that this gala was over-subscribed with the Hull club regrettably having to reject a number of clubs. With clubs from Sheffield, Stocksbridge, Beverley, South Holderness, York, Bridlington any many more attending this level 3 open meet.
Regional Development
The Regional Development Squad was well represented in the Hull Regional Gala at Ennerdale. All swam well, but Emily Wright (aged 17) shone, taking home 4 medals; two silvers, and a gold in the 50m backstroke with a time of 32.25 and another for the 50m freestyle in a time of 28.31seconds. Emma Beadle (13) also competed very well, swimming three personal best times and setting herself up well for the forthcoming Yorkshire championships by improving her 200m Individual Medley by over three seconds. For the boys 16 year old Aaron Tomasz collected 4 top three finishes with the best been a gold in the 200m butterfly in a time of 2.22.16, his brother Jan (14) also took home a gold in 50 freestyle event in a time of 27.85 seconds. Other medal winners included Adam Patterson who collected gold in the 50m backstroke and breaststroke events, Adam Winder gold in the 50m butterfly. Training partners James Rodmell and Dale Booth managed 5 medals between them, Dales highest finish came in the 50m backstroke (3rd place) and James managed a silver in the 50m freestyle event.
AGE GROUP 1
Daniel Stone started the day off well for age group 1 in the 11 year old boys events, getting a 2nd place in the 200 IM and a 1st in the 200 backstroke in a time of 2:41.62. Bailey Hairsine got 2nd place in the 200 back, and 3rd in both the 50 breaststroke and 200 breaststroke. Bailey got his NER time for the 200 IM, in a time of 2:51.89. Nathan Greenwood got two first places for the 50 and 200 breaststroke events and joint 3rd place with Joshua Hawkard in the 200 freestyle. Joshua also got 3:31.14 in the 200 breaststroke.
In the 10-year age, Ben Chapman got his NER time for the 200 backstroke in a time of 3:06.24. He also got 2nd place in the 50 freestyle in a time of 35.58. Jack Woodcock swam well in the 50 breaststroke in a time of 57.77.
The 12-year-old boys saw William Thompson swim a PB and an NER time in the 200 freestyle in a time of 2:24.25. William Maddrell also got two NER times, one in the 200 freestyle and the other in the 200 breaststroke in a time of 3:05.11.
13-year group saw Aram Sharpe have some great swims, but especially in the 200 backstroke swimming a time of 2:47.55. Joe Morris managed two 3rd places in the 200 backstroke and the 200 breaststroke. He also got 1st place in the 50 breast in a time of 39.73.
For the girls10-year-old Leoni Bull got the day started with a PB in the 50m fly swimming it in a time of 41.88. The 11 year olds girls had a great start to the day with Hannah Falkinder claiming the gold with a PB in a time of 34.53 with Emily Bailey close behind to get the silver medal. Hannah Willingham put in a good swim.
Lauren Hall got a PB to claim herself the bronze medal in the 12/13 years category.
The 200m back was up next with Leoni knocking a huge 28 seconds of her time, Abigail Malton put in a good swim. In the 12/13 years category Charlotte Oliver and Katie young both got personal bests. Charlotte and Katie continued the good swimming by both getting PB’s in the 50m breast.
The Morning finished with the 200m breast with Emily claiming the silver medal, Abigail and Hannah W both getting PB’s and Hannah F putting in a good swim With Lauren’s PB in the 12/13 years getting her the 4th place.
200i.m was first up in the afternoon with Hannah Willingham putting in another good swim, With Chloe Hamilton, Lauren and Katie all gaining PB’s in this event.
Hannah Falkinder got her afternoon of to a winning start by claiming the gold in the 50m back with a time of 35.22
Next up was the 200m free where unfortunately Leoni had to pull out due to an injury, but the rest of the girls carried on the good form with Abigail and Hannah Willingham both putting in good swims in and Emily claiming the gold medal in the 10/11 years age. Lauren and Chloe both got themselves PB’s in this event with Charlotte and Katie both having good swims.
The 50m free was up next with Emily putting in another good swim to claim her 2nd gold of the day, Abigail, charlotte and Chloe all put in good swims.
Hannah Falkinder finished the day off on a high note by claiming her third gold of the day in the 200m fly also managing to get a NER qualifying time.
Age 2 Squad
Age group 2 swimmers produced some fantastic performance with 22 PB’s, 3 Gold Medals, 5 Silver Medals and 3 Bronze Medals.
For the girls Aleah Ross won Gold in the 50m free and 50m Fly (in a PB), Silver in the 50m Breast (in a PB) and Bronze in the 50m Back, Emily Sydell achieved PB’s in the 50m Fly and 50m Free while Maddie Tait achieved PBs in both the 50m Breast, 50 Free and in the 50m Back Maddie Tait knocked 6 sec’s off her PB.
The PBs from the age 2 Squad also came in the 200 Back with Laura Bailes knocking 8 sec’s off her PB, in the 200m free Emma Newmarch achieved a fantastic 13.25 sec’s off her PB, with Amy Greenacre also achieving a wonderful 16.6 sec’s off hers and then Francesca Cone with an amazing 20.6 sec’s off hers, also achieving PB’s where Laura Bailes, Mellissa Machin and then in the 50m Fly there were PB’s for Heather Harrison and Emma Newmarch.
For the Boys Lewis Collins won Gold in the 50m Fly (in a PB), in the 50 Back Lewis won Silver improving his PB and achieved his 10 year old Yorkshire time and in the 50m Free he won Silver, Mathew Dixon walked away with 4 medals in 50m Fly beating his PB by 9 Sec’s and Breast he won Silver while in 50m Back and Free he won Bronze, also achieving a 7 sec’s PB improvement was Lewis Masters in the 200m Back.
Age Group 3
Age Group 3 started with the 9-year-old Girls 50m Butterfly Aimee Naylor and Hannah Bird both gaining PBs with times of 1:00.65 and 1:01.45. Next was the Boys 50m Backstroke, which saw Callum Wright, gained a PB 52.44 and taking 4th spot Callum also took 4th place in the 50m freestyle. The next race was the Girls 200m Backstroke Emily Wilkinson swam a PB 4:13.60 Emily also swam PBs in the 200mBreaststroke 4:54.13 backstroke 55.59.
In the Girls 50m Breaststroke Aimee Naylor and Molly Marritt swam PBs 59.00 and 1:03.83 Hannah Bird and Josie Scorah also swam well. The afternoon saw Seamus Downes swim to a great 3rd place in the 50m Breaststroke Seamus also got 5th in the 50m freestyle gaining a new PB 51.84.
In the Girls 50m Backstroke PBs where swam by Megan Batterbee 51.52, Aimee Naylor 52.88, Josie Scorah 1:02.06 In the Boys 50m freestyle Riley Downes swam well to gain a new PB 51.95. The Girls 50m freestyle had PBs for Aimee Naylor, Megan Batterbee, Molly Marritt and Josie Scorah. All in all Age Group 3 swam well against strong competition well done to everyone.
