National Squad

Dervla Curran, Oche Igoche and Whitney Larkin from the National squad were shinning examples to AG1 and the other squads who were at the Chesterfield gala this weekend.

Dervla had an amazing weekend and was one of our strongest swimmers. She started off with the 200m freestyle and she got gold with a 6 second PB in a time of 2:15.53. She then knocked 10 seconds off her 200m backstroke in 2:33.55 and a whopping 14 seconds off her 400m freestyle giving her gold in a time of 4:42.76.

Oche needed a bit of encouragement from the crowd to get his legs working! However once going they did not stop. He knocked 4 seconds off his 100m backstroke in a time of 1:05.25. He got gold in the 200m IM, in a time of 2:26.80 with a 10 second pb and he got a speeding ticket in the 200m freestyle in with a 6 second pb in a time of 2:04.89.

Whitney came 2nd in the 200m freestyle, she then got a 3 second pb in the 100m breaststroke in a time of 1:27.98 The 400m freestyle was next and not to disappoint, she came 1st with a 10 second pb in a time of 5:03.75.

Age 1 Squad

William Thomson got gold in the 100m backstroke with a 6 second pb, in a time of 1:14.59 and also the 100m breaststroke with a 12 second pb in a time of 1:26.16. He saved the best until last and swam the 200m backstroke in a time of 2:25.82 giving him an amazing 18 second pb.

William Maddrell swam the 100m butterfly in a time of 1:16.66 and came third place in the 100m breaststroke, in a time of 1:27.93 giving him a 5 second pb.

Nathan Greenwood secured a 10 second pb in the 400m freestyle in a time of 5:41.29 giving him third place. He also knocked 9 seconds off his 100m backstroke in a time of 1:23.51 and 3 seconds off his 200m backstroke in a time of 2:58.27 giving him two gold medals.

Ruairidh Cleland got a pb of 4 seconds in the 200m freestyle in a time of 2:40.34 and got a 6 second pb in the 200m backstroke in a time of 3:08.28.

Euan Cleland came 2nd in the 200m breaststroke in a time of 3:32.00 and he knocked a second off the 200m freestyle in a time of 3:01.66.

Jack Riley was unable to make the first day through illness, however he made up for it on the Sunday. He swam the 200m freestyle in a time of 2:28.94 securing him 3rd place. He also swam the 100m breaststroke in a time of 1:33.50 giving him a 3 second pb.

Jack Woodcock has only just joined the squad but he has definitely made his mark. He swam the 200m freestyle getting a 22nd second pb in a time of 2:53.24. He also got a whopping 42 second pb in the 200m backstroke in a time of 3:09.56 and a 21 second pb in the 200m IM.

Charlotte Oliver had a fabulous weekend with a 3rd place in the 200m freestyle and a 4 second pb in a time of 2:32.57. She then got a 7 second pb in the 100m butterfly in 1:24.26 and a 5 second pb in the 200m IM in a time of 2:58.19.

Lauren Hall got a 2 second pb in the 200m IM in a time of 2:49.15. She then went on to swim the 100m freestyle in 1:06.72 with a 2 second pb and also the 100m breaststroke in a time of 1:29.77 with a 3 second pb.

Yasmin Brown came first in the 200m backstroke in a time of 2:52.54 with a 10 second pb and she got an 8 second pb in the 100m breaststroke in a time of 1:39.29 with an 8 second pb.

Katie Young got a 2 second pb in the 200m freestyle in a time of 2:37.99 and completed the 200m backstroke in 3:06.30.

Abigail Malton, one of our youngest swimmers followed suite. She got a 12 second pb in the 200m freestyle in a time of 2:48.06. She then got a 5 second pb in the 100m breaststroke in 1:42.99 and she came in 3rd place in the 200m backstroke in a time of 3:07.53, giving her a 4 second pb.

Emily Bailey had a fantastic weekend managing to claim 6 medals. Emily swam her way to the gold in the 50m free with a new PB. Her new PB got her the gold in the 200m back and she got her third gold medal in the 100m back. Emily then went onto claim 3 silver medals in the 400m free 200m IM and the 100m free. To finish off a great weekend Emily came 4th in the 100m fly.

Age 2 Squad

The First Gala of the year Age 2 continued were they left off in 2010 with an amazing 70 PB’s out of 88 opportunities from the 15-squad members along with 8 Gold’s, 8 Silvers, 6 Bronze and an outstanding 14 speeding tickets.

Yorkshire times (25m) where achieved by 5 of the squad Samuel Bailey in the 50 breast (53:51sec), Lewis Collins in the 50 Back (42:71sec), Luke Taylor in the 50 Back (43.87sec), Hollie Verity in the 50 free, Aleah Ross achieved two Yorkshire Times in the 400 free (3:00.25mins) and the 200 Back (3:25.91mins).

Gold Medals went to Callum Wright 400 free (3:35.13mins), Lewis Marsters 50 Back (42:27), Samuel Bailey 50 Free (38:63secs), Maddie Tait 200 Breast (4:08.32mins), Hollie Verity 50 Back (44.99secs), Lewis Collins 50 Fly (51.73secs) and Megan Batterbee achieved two in the 200 Back (3:47.94mons) and the 400 free (7:12.70mins).

Silver Medals went to Megan Batterbee 200 Free (3:23.07mins), Samuel Bailey 50 Breast (53:51secs), Mollie Marritt 400 Free (7:23.73mins), Lewis Collins 50 Free (39:55secs), Maddie Tait 50 Back (47:71secs) and Callum Wright achieved 3 in the 200 Back (4:03.09mins), 50 Back (53:92secs) and 200 Breast (4:38.92mins)

Bronze Medals went to Aleah Ross 50 Fly (48:02secs), Lewis Collins 50 Breast (54:62secs), Hannah Bird 400 Free (3:53.52mins), Callum Wright 200 Free (3:35.13mins) and Hollie Verity achieved two in the 50 Free (39:24secs) and the 200 breast (4:12.55mins).

14 Speeding tickets went to 4 swimmers Hollie Verity in the 200 Free, Samuel Bailey gained 3 in the 50 Back, 50 Breast and 200 free, Lewis Collins gained 3 in the 50 Back, 200 Free and the 200 Breast and wonderful performances from Aleah Ross saw her gain Speeding tickets in 7 of her 8 Races (400 Free, 200 Free, 50 Free, 200 Back, 50 Back, 200 Breast and 50 Breast)

Personnel Bests were achieved by every squad member, Mathew Longhorn achieved 3, Lewis Marsters 5, Luke Taylor 5, Lewis Collins 4, Samuel Bailey 5 Mellissa Machin 6, Francesca Cone 3, Aleah Ross 7, Hollie Verity 5, Maddie Tait 4 and as for our new Squad Members appearing in their first away gala they were outstanding Emily Wilkinson achieved 6, Hannah Bird 4, Mollie Marritt 6 and Megan Batterbee 4.

An outstanding performance by the squad straight after the Christmas break which now sets the barrier for the rest of the year.

Coach Mike Dervey said,”I just wanted to say a massive well done to everyone who swam at Chesterfield this weekend. I thought you were all absolutely fantastic. Not only did you all do big PB's, but your attitude was first class, the behaviour was spot on & the way you all supported & encouraged each other was great to see. It was a real pleasure to be on poolside with the swimmers this weekend”.
