TADPOLES

It was all smiles for the Kingston Upon Hull Swimming club and especially the Tadpole squad in the first club gala of 2011 the tadpoles yet again showed what strength we have at the lower end of the club. The Girls 25m free event was won by newcomer Grace Bird in a time of 23.29, with Rebecca Budgeon coming a close second with 23.36 and Lillie-May Wilkinson in 3rd place. The boy’s event was won by James Dodd in a time of 18.67, with Lewis Taylor 2nd and Kieran Naylor 3rd. In the 25m back James proved what a promising talent he is by taking this race with a time of 28.31, with Lewis in 2nd and Ben Rimmington in 3rd. The girls 25m back was won by Lillie-May in a time of 26.56, with Grace in 2nd place and Eloise Shuttleworth in 3rd place.

Assistant coach Nick Mills commented on the strength and enthusiasm of the younger swimmers.

Age 3 Squad

A great start was seen by our younger age group 3’s that saw Megan Gray achieve gold medals, in the 25m freestyle and 25m backstroke, also Helen Beales gained a new PB of 24.74 in the 25m freestyle improving her time by over 5 secs.

An outstanding performance was seen in the Boys 100m IM which saw Chrissy Annis gain a gold medal, Joshua Wormald, a silver and Cameron Offen, a bronze, in their first ever 100m IM, which saw them all achieve respectable times.

Next was the Girls 100m IM, which saw Elizabeth Hawkard take gold, Hannah Sedman-Smith take silver and Jolie Bull take bronze, Other great performances in this event was seen by Gemma Page, Aimee Naylor, Ellie Peaks, Ruby Willingham, Katy Grennacre, Emily Thackary-Nocera and Lucy Park.

In the boys 50m Backstroke, Cameron Offen gained a gold medal, Joshua Wormald gaining his 2nd silver of the day and Glyn Richardson gaining the bronze .In the same event William and Charlie Bucur put in an excellent performance gaining good times.

Next we saw the Girls 50m Backstroke; Elizabeth Hawkard gaining her 2nd gold of the day as well as achieving a new PB of 51.26, silver went to Ellie Peaks and Hannah Sedman-Smith took the bronze, a good performance was also seen by Gemma Page, Emily Thackary-Nocera, Ruby Willingham, Katy Grennacre and Aimee Naylor.

Chrissy Annis, Ruby Willingham, Hannah Sedman-Smith, Aimee Naylor, Gemma Page, Jolie Bull & Lilly Hawkard all did the 200m FC that is a really tough longer distance for them & all did a great job. This was the first time any of them had swam this event & they all looked technically brilliant & they where rewarded with superb times.

Age 2 Squad

In the First club Gala of the year Age 2 continued their success with 15 PB’s and there were some outstanding performances over the afternoon.

First up was the Girls 11 Yrs/Under 200m IM Aleah Ross took Gold in a 12sec PB time 3:20.33, Silver went to Mellissa Machin in a PB time of 3:21.67.

The Boys 11 Yrs/Under 200m IM came next with Lewis Collins taking Silver with the Bronze going to Samuel Bailey.

In the 100m Fly Girls 11 Yrs/Under Aleah Ross won Gold with the Silver going to Mellissa Machin in a 7 sec PB time of 1:46.69 and for the Boys 11 yrs/under Lewis Marsters took Bronze with a 6 sec PB time 1:53.00.

The Girls 200m free saw some fantastic times, Silver went to Mellissa Machin in a 14sec PB time of 2:58.81, Bronze to Aleah Ross and then PBs were achieved by Emily Tait 14secs,Megan Batterbee 3secs, Emily Wilkinson 7secs, Molly Marritt 4sec’s, Natasha Clark 13sec’s and Cesena Ball 14sec’s.

The Boys 200m Free followed with equally good results Silver went to Lewis Collins with a 6sec’s PB time 3:05.96 PB’s also went to Lewis Marsters 4 sec’s Luke Taylor 14 sec’s and Matthew Dixon in a fantastic 26 sec’s.

The final events of the day were the Boys and Girls 50m Back, for the Girls Silver went to Aleah Ross and Bronze to Melissa Machin. The Boys Bronze went to Luke Taylor.

Age 1 Squad

Age 1 girls had a great afternoon at the first club gala of the New Year. With the opportunity to swim in four races. The 200m IM, 100m fly, 200m free and 50m back. The youngest swimmer of age group 1, 10-year-old Darcey Hambly claimed the gold medals in all three of her races, the 200m IM, 50m back and a new PB in the 200m free in a time of 2.45.78.

Not to be out done 11-year-old Shannon McGahey claimed 3 gold medals and a silver, managing 3 new PB’s the gold medals were for the 200m IM, 100m fly, 200m free and the silver for the 50m back. Emily Bailey managed to claim 3 medals getting the silver medal in the 200m IM and 200m free and the gold in the 50m back with a new PB. Lauren Hall swam her way to 4 medals, the silver medal in the 100m fly also getting a PB, Lauren claimed the bronze medal’s in 200m IM, 200m free and the 50m back. Charlotte Oliver finished the medal haul off for the age group 1 girls by claiming the bronze medal in the 100m fly.

The rest of the age group 1 girls made all that training pay off by swimming their way to some fantastic PB’s, most notable where12 year old Jessica Chapman with a whopping 24 second PB in the 200m IM. 11 year old Heidi Morris managed a huge 17 second PB in the 200m IM after 4 months away and also getting a PB in the 100m Fly.11 year old Leoni Bull managed a fantastic 18second PB in the 200m free, with a 9 second PB in the 200m IM. Chloe Hamilton managed PB’s in two of her races with Abigail Malton, getting a PB in the 200m IM, and hitting her new time from the previous weekend in the 200 free. Katie young put in good swims in both her races.

The regional development squad stated the season reasonably well, with 15-year-old Dale Ferriby improving his times in the 200m freestyle and the 200m im by a total of 13 seconds. Connor Downes also 15 this year reduced also reduced his best time by an impressive 14 seconds in the 200m freestyle. James Rodmell who turns 21 in Febuary and Dale Booth took 2 gold medals each, James in the 200m freestyle and the 100m butterfly both swims been Yorkshire qualifying time. Dale took top boy in both the 50m backstroke and the 200im events.

Pick of the girls where Jess Kelsey (15) who reduced her 200m im time by 4 seconds, it was also nice to see Ellie McKay return to competitive swimming after a number of months break.

Jack Woodcock got 1st place in the 200m freestyle in a time of 2:53.74 and 2nd place in the 100m butterfly in a time of 1:45.81.

Ben Chapman came 3rd in the 200m freestyle in 3:06.64. He came first in the 50m backstroke in 41.16.

William Thomson got three 1st places, one in 100m butterfly in 1:13.69, another in 50m backstroke in 35.06 and the last one in 200m IM in a time of 2:36.09.

William Maddrell got 2nd place in the 100m butterfly in a time of 1:20.64, 3rd place in the 200m freestyle in 2:38.22 and 2nd place in the 200m IM in a time of 2:46.14.

Bailey Hairsine got 2nd place in the 200m IM in a time of 2:32.54 and 3rd place in the 100m butterfly 1:20.85 and the 200m IM in a time of 2:53.11.

Ruairidh Cleland came 4th in the 200m freestyle in a time of 2:41.28 and the 100m butterfly in a time of 1:32.53. He came 5th place in the 200m IM in a time of 3:09.00.

Joe Morris came in 3rd place in the 100m butterfly in a time of 1:20.00 and 3rd place in the 50m backstroke in a time of 35.62. He came 2nd in the 200m IM in a time of 2:39.97.
