The first Hull and District gala of 2011 took place at Ennerdale at the weekend. Kingston Upon Hull Swimming club had a number of swimmers competing in their third consecutive gala of the year.

Before the start of the gala the Hull and District made a presentation of trophies for the 2010 swimmers of the year. There were 14 trophies up for grabs, 7 in the boys categories in age groups 9/10/11/12/13/14 and 15 and over with the same number been awarded for the girls.

The club swimmers won a total of 6 trophies more than any other competing club. The trophies winners were Aleah Ross in the 9 years age group, Hannah Faulkinder in the 11 years age group, Emily Bailey 12 and Emma Beadle in the girl 13 years age group.

For the boys 9 year old Ben Chapman and 11-year-old Bailey Hairsine also won top boy from 2010.

Age 3 Squad

Age group 3’s had a great start to their first Hull and district Championship of 2011.

In the Girls 25m Breastroke, we saw Ruby Willingham gain a 4 second personal best with a time of 29.69, Jolie Bull a 2 second personal best and Elizabeth Hawkard improved her time by 1 second. All the girls gained respectable times.

In the Girls 100 IM, Elizabeth Hawkard gained a new PB of 1:44 improving her time by 4 seconds; both girls did very well and put in excellent performances.

Age 2 Squad

5 Members represented the Squad at this first District Gala and achieved 5 personal bests and 4 Medals.

In the 100m Back Samuel Bailey won Gold in a time of 1:34.75 and Callum Wright swam a 7 second personal best time of 1:51.90.

For the Girls 100m Back Aleah Ross took Gold in an 8 second PB time of 1:32.01 while Megan Batterbee swam a 10 second personal best time of 1:37.87.

Samuel and Callum went in the 100m IM next where Samuel took Silver in an amazing 25 second improved time of 1:40.90 and Callum swam the event for the first time.

In the Girls 100m IM Aleah Ross took Gold in a 2 sec PB time of 1:35.89, Hollie Verity Swam the event for the first time in a time of 1:43.13, as did Megan Batterbee in a time of 1:45.36.

Age 1 Squad

12-year-old Hannah Willingham had a great afternoon managing to claim the bronze medal in the 200IM in a time of 3.05.37. She then went onto claim the first place trophy in the 100m breast she swam this in a time of 1.34.54.

In the boys11 year old age group Ben Chapman won a gold in the 200m IM in a time of 3:23.74.

In the 12-year group 200im Bailey Hairsine won gold medal and the top boy in the 11/12 years 200im in a time of 2:52.66. Nathan Greenwood came 2nd in a time of 3:00.45.

In the 100m Breaststroke, Ben Chapman (11) came 5th in a time of 2:10.23. Nathan Greenwood won a gold in the 11/12 years age group and also top boy in a time of 1:35.50. Bailey Hairsine came 2nd in a time of 1:37.92.

Regional Squad

In the girls 13/14 years age group Emma Beadle was the fastest girl in the 100m butterfly and also the 200m freestyle winning the butterfly in a time of 1.21.53, Zoe Webster managed a much-improved swims in both events.

Ben Annis managed a 5 second improvement in the boys’ 13/14 years 200m freestyle and also won a silver medal.

In the older boys James Rodmell swam a lifetime best time of 56.95 seconds in 100m freestyle his training partner Dale Booth won a silver medal in the same event.
