Kingston Upon Hull Swimming Club took a large number of swimmers to compete in the Harragate A+B grade open meet at the Harrogate Hydro pool over the weekend of the 9th & 10th of April, with outstanding results.

Age 3 Squad

Having just turne,d 9 Jolie Bull and Hannah Sedman-Smith took part in their first Gala Outside of Hull and neither let this affect them, both managing medals in all their races. The first up for the girls was the 50 Free where Jolie knocked 5 seconds off her time to claim the A grade 7th place medal, Hannah knocked 2 seconds off her time to take the B grade bronze Medal and to top this off both girls managed to swim it in Yorkshire Qualifying time. The next event for Jolie was the 50 fly, swimming this for the first time Jolie managed to gain a 4th place B Medal.

On the Sunday the girls looked to continue their success they started the day with 50m back, where Jolie swam it in a time of 48.78 a great 7 second PB which gained her the B silver medal and her second 9 year Yorkshire time. Hannah managed to swim her way to a 5 second PB and the 8th place B medal.

The hardest swim came in the 200m Free for Jolie and Hannah, again both overcoming their nerves and putting in great swims with Jolie managing a huge 17 second PB to swim it in a time of 3.21.32 to claim the B grade gold medal. Hannah managed a 4 second PB to take the B 8th place Medal.

The girls final race was 50M breast where they drew lanes next to each other and were neck and neck with Jolie just touching first in a time of 58.33 to get the 6 the place B medal and Hannah touched in a time of 59.69 to take the B 8th place medal.

10 year Old Aimee Naylor took part in all the 50m events, her best swim coming in the 50m free where she knocked 3 seconds off her time. Aimee put in good swims in all her other events.

Age 2 Squad

The Age 2 Squad that competed were Matthew Longhorn, Luke Taylor, Lewis Collins, Samuel Bailey, Gabriel Larkin, Luke Chapman, Laura Bailes, Melissa Machin, Hollie Verity, Emma Newmarch, Natasha Clark, Emily Wilkinson, Molly Marritt and Megan Batterbee.

All the fantastic effort the squad have been putting into training has really paid off at this event where in 71 heats they gained 63 PB’s, 9 Yorkshire Times, 13 Gold Medals, 9 Silvers and 4 Bronze.

11 year old Matthew Longhorn swam in 5 heats where he gained 3 PB’s, 1 Yorkshire Time, 3 Gold Medals and 1 Silver. Matthew swam PB times in the 200m Free 5 sec (2:50.72), 50m Back 2 sec (41:48 Yorkshire time) and 200m Back 6 sec (3:12.40)

10 Year old Luke Taylor swam in 7 heats producing PB’s in all his heats along with 2 bronze and 1 Yorkshire Time. Luke Swam PB’s in 50 free 2 sec (37:45), 200m Free 5 sec (3:05.87), 50m Back 2 sec (42:13 Yorkshire Time), 200m Back 1 sec (3:31.88), 200m Breast 23 sec (4:15.88), 50m Fly 2 sec (44:20) and the 200m IM 1 sec (3:36.69). 10-Year-Old Lewis Collins swam in 5 heats where he gained 4 PB’s, 3 Yorkshire Times and 1 Gold. Lewis Swam PB’s in 50m Free 3 sec (37:45 Yorkshire Time), 200m Free 8 sec (2:57.66), 200m Back 11 sec (3:12.21 Yorkshire time) and 200m Breast 23 sec (3:42.90 Yorkshire Time).

9 year old Samuel Bailey had an outstanding meet swimming in 6 events and producing 4 PB’s, 1 Yorkshire Time, 4 Gold Medals and 2 Silver. Samuel Swam PB’s in 200m Free 11 sec (2:58.34), 200m Back 13 sec (3:18.87), 200m Breast 18 sec (3:43.17 Yorkshire Time) and 200m IM 7 sec (3:27.90). 11-Year-Old Gabriel Larkin swam in the 50m Free and product a fantastic PB beating his previous by 7 sec’s.

11 year old Luke Chapman swam in 8 events where he gained 7 PB’s, 1 Gold Medal and 2 Silver’s. Luke’s PB’s came in the 50m Free 4 sec (36:80), 200m Free 10 sec (3:04.59), 50m Back 3 sec (51.93), 200m Back 41 sec (3:46.83), 50m Fly 3 sec (40:46) and the 200m IM 12 sec (3:18.53). 12 Year Old Laura Bailes swam in 4 events and produced PB’s in all of them 50 Free 3 sec (41:01), 100m Free 3 sec (1:35.48), 200M Back 7 sec (3:35.08) and 50m Fly 8 sec (53:79)

11 year old Melissa Machin swam in 4 events gaining 3 PB’s, 1 Yorkshire Time and a Gold Medal. Melissa’s PB’s came in the 50m Free 5 sec (34:31 Yorkshire Time), 100m Free 3 sec (1:16.55) and 50m Fly 4 sec (40:96). 9 Year Old Hollie Verity 5 heats produced 3 PB’s, 1 Yorkshire Time and a Bronze Medal. Hollies PB’s came in the 400m Free 16 sec (6:42.77), 50m Back 2 sec (43:70 Yorkshire Time) and the 200m IM 12sec (3:29.47)

11 year old Emma Newmarch produced big PB’s from all 4 of her heats. Emma’s PB’s came from 50m Free 4 sec (40:10), 100m Free 7 sec (1:31.84), 100m Breast 8 sec (1:56.48) and the 50m Fly 4 sec (52.35).

11 Natasha Clark also produced great PB’s from all of her 7 heats. Natasha achieved PB’s in 50m Free 5 sec (44:65), 100m Free 9 sec (1:37.95), 200m Free 11 sec (3:31.76), 50m Back 4 sec (50:503), 50m Breast 6 sec (58:62), 100m Breast 13 sec (2:08.21) and the 50m Fly 11 sec (56:28)

10 Year Old Emily Wilkinson not to be out done also produced fantastic PB’s in all of her 5 heats. Natasha achieved her PB’s in the 50m Free 4 sec (42:12), 200m Free 17 sec (3:20.72), 50m Back 4 sec (46:85), 200m Back 23 sec (3:43.33) and the 200m IM 14 sec (3:56.17).

9 year old Molly Marritt kept the ball rolling with PB’s in all of her 6 Events along with a Gold Medal and 2 Silver’s. Molly’s PBs came in the 50m Free 4 sec (42.43), 100m Free 21sec (3:21.35), 400m Free 36 sec (6:47.42), 50m Back 2 sec (49:75), 50m Breast 6 sec (57:50) and in the 200m Breast 25 sec (4:16.34).

10 year old Megan Batterbee had a fantastic meet swimming in 5 heats where she produced PB’s in all of them along with 1 Yorkshire Time, 2 Gold Medals, 2 Silver and a Bronze. Megan’s PB’s came in the 50 Free 4 sec (38:74), 200m Free 16 sec (3:03.87), 400m Free 37 sec (6:36.28), 50m Back 4 sec (44.11 Yorkshire Time) and finally in the 200m Back 8 sec (3:33.29).

Age 1 Squad

Age one swimmers were looking to carry the squad’s success on from the Derventio gala that some age 1 swimmers had attended the previous weekend and they didn’t disappoint walking away with 27 medals between them!!

First up was the 400m free event, were 11 year old Leoni Bull got the racing off to a brilliant start by knocking 40 seconds off her PB to claim the B grade Silver Medal. The 12 year old girls had a close fought race with Hannah Willingham claiming the bonze B grade medal with a massive 44 second PB , Abigail Malton took 4th with a 16 second PB and Jessica Chapman 5th with a great 26 second PB. 10 year old Jack woodcock got the racing started for the boys where he took a fantastic 24 seconds off his time to claim the A grade bronze. Ruairidh Cleland swam his way to a 18 second PB.

Joe Morris’s first event was the 50m Breast where he got a 3 second PB to claim the A gold medal. Chloe Hamilton then got a PB in the 50m free and Jack took the 7th place runners up medal.12 year old Joshua Hawkard managed a 2 second PB to take the A silver medal and Ruairidh managed a 2 second PB.

First event for the 13 year olds was 200m free where Lauren Hall put in a great swim to come 4th in the A grade. Leoni Put in another great swim in the 200m back to knock 6 seconds off her time to claim the B bronze, Abigail and Chloe game in 5th and 6th respectively in their age group. The boys continued the medal rush with jack claiming 4th place medal in the A and 11 year old Ben Chapman got a new PB to claim the A bronze medal. Joshua took 7 seconds off his time to claim the b gold medal.

The next session for the swimmers was a night session and was a new experience for most to start the evening off was 100m Breast, where Hannah and Jessica swam, Jessica had another good swim knocking 4 seconds off to claim the A bronze medal, Lauren took the B Gold medal with Joe getting a PB to take the A gold, It was a quick turnaround for the 13and 14 year olds, who went straight into the 200m I.M where the tiredness had started to kick in but Lauren Joe and Aram all managed to hit their entry time, with Joe taking the bronze in the A grade. Ben swam in the 50m fly, then the girls were up in 100m free where Leoni bull and Hannah Willingham hit their entry time while Jessica put in a great swim to knock 6 seconds off to move up into the A grade, and Lauren hit her entry time to take silver in the A grade. Ruairidh knocked 6 seconds off his time to claim the A silver medal, and Aram took the A silver medal in his age group.

The swimmers where at the pool bright and early Sunday Morning all looking to carry on the success, And it was the 400m Free for the older swimmers this time were Lauren Hall got a PB to finish in the A grade. The 3, 12 year Old girls where all competing again in the 200m breast where Jessica put in a amazing swim to be a clear leader through the entire heat knocking a huge 26 seconds off her time to go from B to A grade and finish just outside the medals in 4th place. Hannah got a 3 second PB to finish 4th in the B grade with Abigail Knocking 9 seconds of her time. Joshua swam his way to a 9 second PB to claim the bronze A medal with Ruairidh getting a PB to claim the B gold medal. Leoni and Abigail took part in the 50m back where they both managed PB’s with Leoni finishing top 5 in the A grade and Abigail finishing top 5 in the B. Jack and Ben both managed PB’s with jack taking a 6th place medal in the A and Ben the 11 year old gold in the A grade. Aram looked to continue his success from the night before Knocking 10 seconds of his time to claim the A silver medal in 100m fly.

The afternoon session started with the girls 200m free were Leoni knocked 5 seconds off her time to take the B gold, Chloe, Jessica and Abigail all took part with them continuing to get PB’s with Jessica knocking off a respectable 9 seconds, Abigail got a 3 second PB and Chloe a 6 second PB. Jack took the 4th place B medal with a 4 second PB and Ben took the B silver with a 6 second PB. Joshua and Ruairidh having a close fought battle to take 5th and 6th respectively in the A grade managing a 7 and 8 second PB respectively. Aram continued his great swims and took 2 seconds of his 50m back time to take the A gold medal. In the 200m I.M it was PB’s all round with Hannah and Jessica gaining more big PB’s knocking 11 and 8 seconds of their time with Abigail and Chloe both getting new PB’s. The boys continued to match the girl’s performances by getting PB’s as well with jacks PB getting him the 5th A grade medal, and Ben knocked 5 seconds of his time. Lauren took the B gold in the 200m breast, with Hannah and Chloe batting it out in the 50m breast to take 4th and 5th in the A grade with less than a second between them.

Ruairidh got a new PB in the 50m breast to finish 4th in the B grade. Leoni had a great swim in the 100m back were her 5 second PB moved her from the B to finish 6th in the A grade, and Aram finished the day of in style taking the A gold medal in his 100m Back.

13 year old Whitney Larkin was swimming from the national development and all her efforts paid off. Whitney took the A grade gold in a time 2.22.70, she then went on to take A silver in the 100m Breast in a time of 1.27.12, she followed this up with another silver in the A grade in 200I.M in a time of 2.45.41. In the 100m free Whitney took the A bronze to complete her collection in a time of 1.06.78. In the 400m free Whitney put in a great swim to take A gold, Whitney finished her weekend off with 4th place in the B grade in 100m fly with a new PB.

Regional Squad

Kingston’s regional squad also hit’s the medal trail, at Harrogate competing at the spring A B meeting at the Hydro.

It was the turn of the younger end of the squad, to show their hard work in training pays dividend with 19 medals been achieved by the squad. Zoe Webster started the ball rolling competing in the 200m fc, securing a 3rd place, then went on to pb in her 100m free, 100m breast and the 200m im. In the 14 year old age group Emma Beadle secured 1st place in the 200m im then went on to pb by 1 second in the 100m free event.

In the 15year old age group Eleanor Johnstone secured a 3rd place in the 200m fc, then went on to record a 8 second pb in the 200m im also recording pb’s in her 100m free and 50m breast races.

Twins Katie and Josie Murray secured a 2nd and 3rd place in the 200m im, with Josie taking 15 seconds of her pb then went on to take 4 seconds off her 100m fc. Katie also lowered her pb in the 100m fc and 50 fly by 1 second. Also competing in the girls event was Ellie McKay

In the boys events it was Ben Annis that got the boys medal trail going, swimming in the 200m fc Ben was rewarded with a well deserved 3rd also recording on 8 second pb, Ben also produced fine swims in the 6 sec pb 100m br, 5 sec pb 100m fc and 3 sec pb in the 200m im.

In the 14 year olds, up and coming brothers Fionbmar and Conor Downes, produced some excellent swims. Fionbmar recorded a 1st 2nd 3rd and a 4th place in the 50m fly, 200m im, 50m fc and 100m br as well as recording pb’s in them all, then went on to pb by 11 seconds in the 200m fc.

Connor not to be out done by his brother, had some great swims producing 2 silver medals in the 200m fc, 200m im and a bronze in the 50m fly.

It was a gold medal in the 50m fly for Heshaw Mardan in his first away gala, and two 3rd place’s in the 100m fc and 200m im with a massive 21 second pb in the 200m im.

In the 15 year old age group, Tom Longhorn swimming in 7 events over the weekend, collected two 2nd places in the 200m fc and 100m br and a 3rd in the 50m fc, as well as collecting medals Tom recorded some impressive pb’s taking 12 seconds off his 200m im.

Dale Ferriby competing in 5 event 200m fc, 100m fc, 200m im 50m fly and 50m br, pb’d in all his events by 3 seconds.
