Leeds National Qualifier
Members of the Age Group 1 squad were once again on their travels to the National Qualifier Gala at John Charles Aquatic Centre in Leeds.
12 year old Bailey Hairsine performed magnificently, walking away with a hoard of medals from the two day event. Gold in the 400m IM and 200m butterfly races were back up by a silver from the 200m IM. An impressive 5 second pb in the 200m freestyle in a time of 2:19.94 brought a bronze medal and to cap the weekend off he took another third place in the 100m butterfly. Hot on Bailey’s heels in the hunt for medals was 12 year old dual club swimmer Tom King. He too performed superbly; took gold in the 200m freestyle and silver in both the 100m and 200m butterfly events. A further two bronze medals, one for the 100m freestyle and the other for the 400m freestyles in a time of 4:54.71 made for a very productive outing.
11 year old Darcy Hambly proved that it is not just the boys who can be in the medals; taking silver in the 100m backstroke and two bronzes from the 200m and 400m freestyle races. Lewis Collins continued his recent run of good form, swimming in five races he reached three final. Finishing 5th for the 100m and 200m backstroke and with an impressive 5 second pb took 8th in the 200m freestyle narrowly missing out on an NER time.
In the 13 year old age group Danny Stone reached three finals; taking 5th place in the 100m freestyle and 100m backstroke races and 9th for the 200m backstroke. Hannah Willingham reached finals for the 200m backstroke and 100n breaststroke and posted solid pb’s for all her other races.
11 year old Jack Woodcock reached two finals; improving upon his qualifying position in both the 100m freestyle and 200m backstroke races. Emily Tate and Megan Batterbee swam for the first time in a 50m pool and by no means were they overwhelmed and certainly didn’t disappoint. Megan took part in the 200m freestyle and 200m backstroke and Emily was delighted to reach the final for her 200m backstroke.
12 year old dual club swimmer Tom King had an outstanding weekend, walking away with a gold medal in the 100m Butterfly in a time of 1:10.57; narrowly missing out on a national qualifying time by 0.6 second. In the 200m Freestyle he swan 2:17.28 to just miss out on a bronze medal. Impressive performances in the 200m IM and 200m Butterfly saw him swim to 5th and 7th places in times of 2:37.58 and 2:44.79 respectively.
12 year old Bailey Hairsine continued his excellent run of form competing in six races over the weekend. The highlights started with an outstanding bronze medal in the 400m IM in a time of 5:33.63 saw him post a 6 second pb. A fifth place for his 200m Butterfly in a time of 2:39.49 was soon followed by a huge 5 second pb for the 100m Backstroke in a time of 1:16.32.
10 year old Aleah Ross posted an impressive 4 second pb in the 100m Breaststroke in a time of 1:39.51 gaining an 11 year old Yorkshire qualifying time and them managed an NER time for 100m Freestyle in 1:09.96. 13 year old Danny Stone posted a 3 second pb in the 200m Backstroke in a time of 2:33.95 and them swam to solid pb’s in the 50m and 100m Backstrokes and 100m Freestyle. To round the weekend off 11 year old Darcy Hambly competed well in both her events, gaining a 1 second pb for her 200m Backstroke.
