North East County’s Championship

The North East County’s Championships is one of the biggest events on Kingston upon Hulls swimming calendar with qualifications been an achievement on its own. The event was swum over two weekends in June the Ponds Forge pool in Sheffield and also the John Charles pool in Leeds.
Leading the way for the Hull club was 14 year old National swimmer Dervla Curran. Dervla swimming in 6 events had top 10 finishes in all of them. She struck gold in the 400m freestyle in a time of 4.29, a second gold came in the 800m freestyle event. Medals continued to come, silver in the 200m free was followed by a bronze in the 100m free and the 400m im and a fourth place in the 200m butterfly event.
13 year old Shannon McGahey also made a number of finals, she finished ninth in the 400m free, eight in the 800m free, seventh in the200m and 100m butterfly (1.11.83) with her best finish been in the 400m im where she finished sixth with a three second improvement.
This was not the end of the impressive performances. 10 year old Sam Bailey has had a busy couple of weekends swimming in nine events. He made seven final appearances, collecting a bronze medal in the 100m free in a time of 1.11.77, silver in the 100m backstroke in a time of 1.22.04 but struck gold in the 200 backstroke in a new personal best time of 2.54.63 seconds.
Emily Bailey followed brother Sams lead and made two finals coming 10th in the 100m backstroke in a time of 1.11.04 and was also 10th in the 100m freestyle recording a time of 1.03.68.
14 year old Lauren Hall also managed to make it through to two finals she came 9th in the 100m breaststroke with a three second improvement on her time and also came 9th in the 100m free.
The relay teams also had a good couple of weekends, the 11/14 years 400m freestyle team of Jace Cappleman (14), Dervla Curran (14), Lauren Hall and Email Bailey swam well and managed to qualify for the Nationals later in the year and they have also got confirmation that they have qualified in the 800m freestyle team event as well.
Age 1 Squad Report
Dual club swimmer Tom King (12) not only qualified for seven events at the prestigious North East Regional championships but also managed to progress into every final. If that wasn’t good enough he went on to take silver medals with National Qualifying times in the 100 and 200m butterfly, and 400m IM. A forth silver for his 100m freestyle, a 4th place for the 200m IM and two 5th places capped of an amazing performance.
12 year old Bailey Hairsine also qualified for seven events and posted some impressive times. In the 1500m freestyle he swam 19:30.30 to gain a massive16 second pb, and 2:33.10 in the 200m backstroke knocked 10 seconds of his best. Solid pb’s for the 100m Backstroke and 400m freestyle rounded off a successful outing. 11 year old Darcy Hambly swam in eight races and reached three finals. A 4th place finish for the 800m freestyle in a time of 10:58.22 was her best result and good pb’s for all other freestyle events made all the effort worthwhile. Lewis Collin (11) competed in the 200m backstroke and narrowly missed out on a place in the final and 11year old Aleah Ross competed in the 100m freestyle swimming 1:09.30.
