KuHSC sponsored swim for Teenage Cancer Trust
A group of swimmers from Kingston upon Hull Swimming Club have raised £495 from a sponsored swim in aid of the Teenage Cancer Trust. The swimmers, who are students at several schools across Hull and the East Riding, decided to join forces with a sponsored swim at their club, KUHSC.
Rachael Williamson, Head Girl at Wolfreton School and Sixth Form College, organised the sponsored swim and said:
Teenage Cancer Trust is a really worthwhile charity and it was great to raise money for it through swimming, which is something that I love and which is such a big part of my life. Kingston upon Hull Swimming Club did a sponsored swim in 2011 which was successful, so I wanted to try to do something for the charity my Sixth Form supports. I asked my Swimming Coach and my Pastoral Manager at Wolfreton, who gave me the sponsor forms. I talked to the people in my squad about who would be willing to participate and then they went round their individual schools and families to get the sponsorship money. KUHSC were really supportive, allowing us to do the sponsored swim during one of our longer training sessions when we had the pool for three hours instead of the usual two, which gave us longer to complete the 10K swim. In total, we managed to raise £495 which was a great effort.
