Derby Meet
Ponds Forge, Sheffield
Saturday 11th & Sunday 12th January 2014
Members of Kingston upon Hull swimming club’s National and Junior A squads travelled to Ponds Forge in Sheffield to take part in the prestigious Derby Open level one event.
14 year old Shannon McGahey competed in six events over the weekend. She achieved three top ten finishes and walked away with a bronze medal for the 200m frontcrawl, by swimming a 2 second personal best in a time of 2:10.86. 14 year old Bailey Hairsine qualified for no less than seven events and also managed three top ten finishes. Achieving personal best times in all of his races, his best finish was a 5th place for the 400m frontcrawl in a time of 4:25.34.
13 year old Jack Woodcock competed in three events, gaining personal best times in all his races. He achieved two top ten finishes, the best of which was a 3rd place for the 50m frontcrawl in 28.54 seconds. 15 year old Elliot Stephenson also competed in three events, 50m frontcrawl, 100m breaststroke and 50m backstroke and gained personal bests’ in all.
12 year old Aleah Ross achieved top ten in two of her races, in which she came 9th place in the 200m im and 6th place in the 100m freestyle. She also achieved the fastest 12 year old in the 50M freestyle open event.
Lewis Collins, aged 12, came 8th in his 100m freestyle event with a 2 second personal best, and 9th place in his 100m backstroke with a personal best of 4 seconds. He also took 6 seconds off his 200m free and a massive 8 seconds off his 200m backstroke time. 12 year old Jake Conlon had a decent weekend, where he gained 3 new long course personal best times in his 200m IM, 200m freestyle and 100m breaststroke.
