NER Championship Meet John Charles Centre, LEEDS – Saturday 7th & Sunday 8th June 2014 Ponds Forge, SHEFFIELD – Saturday 14th & Sunday 15th June 2014

The North East Region swimming championships were held in Sheffield and Leeds recently. Kingston upon Hull swimmers were up against some tough competition but more than held their own, with the younger swimmers rising to the challenge.

National Squad

Will Costello 14, qualified for the 200m backstroke, 200m frontcrawl and in the 100m frontcrawl reached the final and finished in 5th place with a personal best time of 58.99 seconds.

Junior A Squad

Aleah Ross (13) a great NER’s competing in four individual races in the 13 year age group , having had a birthday only 2 weeks ago. She gained a Long Course Pb in the 100m back, but she just missed out on a pb in the 100m breast. Aleah also competed in the 100M Free and the 200M IM where she qualified for the finals and finishing in 10th place. She was also a part of the team event, with the 4x200m free team coming 9th and the 4 x 100m free team coming 10th.

Hollie Verity (12) swam in the NER’s for the first time where she competed in the 400M IM achieving a time of 6.06.43

Alex Stringer (13) had a successful NER’s swimming in 7 events. Alex had solid swims in the 100M Fly, 100M Back. She also gained good pb’s in the 200M and 400M IM, and the 200M Back. Alex saved the best till last with her 100m breaststroke where she secured her first regional final place.

Lewis Collins (13) Swam in the 100M free having a good swim and coming in 12th place with a pb of 1.86 seconds
