Burns Open Meet 2015
Ponds Forge, Sheffield
Saturday 24th & Sunday 25th January 2015

A small number of National Swimmers attended the Burns Open Meet at Ponds Forge Sheffield over the weekend of 24th & 25th January 2015. The first long course meet of the year proved to be a tough meet for the swimmers but they still managed to claim medals and post some personal best times.

Aleah Ross competed in the 13 years age group. Aleah’s first personal best came in the 50 meter butterfly in which she knocked off 1/2 second and claimed bronze medal. Aleah then made the same improvement in the 100 meter freestyle and claimed a silver medal for her effort. 6th placed achieved in 200 meter freestyle, 10th in 200 meter individual medley. Then to finish her weekend she walked away with silver medal in the 50 meter freestyle.

Bailey Hairsine in the 14/15 years age group also secured a bronze medal in the 200 meter individual medley with a personal best time 2.20.58. Another personal best was posted in the 400 meter freestyle 4.17.98 finishing in 4th place in a time of 4.17.98. 4th place finishes were also achieved in 400 meter individual medley and 200 meter backstroke. 8th place finishes in 200 meter freestyle and 100 meter backstroke.

Alex Stringer aged 14 competed in the 14/15 years age group having 3 races and achieved 3 personal bests. Alex’s first personal best came in the 100 meter breastroke. In the 50 meter breastroke a new time of 36.52 posted, which placed her in 7th place. Alex continued her form which resulted in 9th place in the 200 meter breastroke in a time of 2.47.71 a 4 second improvement.

Shannon McGahey aged 15 secured some top ten finishes. In the 200 meter butterfly she finished in 9th place. Shannon matched her finish in the 400 meter freestyle. 10th place secured in the 400 meter individual medley. In the 200 meter freestyle a 6th place finish achieved.
