KUHSC held its first open meet of the season on the 4th October 2015. Swimmers blew off what was left of the summer break cobwebs and there were plenty of PB’s, Yorkshire & NER qualifying times and medals galore.

Junior B Squad

An excellent performance from Joshua Wormald,12, resulted in two medal places. Joshua knocked four seconds off his 200m breast time to finish in second place, taking the silver medal and achieving his spring Yorkshire qualifying time. A bronze medal followed in the challenging 200m fly, and a one second pb in the 50m freestyle to finish the day. Benjamin Shipley,13, swam in five events gaining three pb’s, Ben’s strongest performance was in the 200m back where Ben finished with a fantastic time of 2.47.94 and a three second pb.

Another outstanding performance from Grace Rispin,11, in all of her six events, resulted in Grace taking home six medals and setting six new personal best times. Grace knocked an amazing ten seconds off her 200m breaststroke to finish in 3.17.27, and six seconds off her 200m back. A five second pb on the 200m free resulted in a first place finish with a time of 2.25.97, and another five seconds off her 200m IM meant that Grace took home four gold medals, one silver and a bronze.

Molly Raithby,9, entered nine events. Molly had a fantastic day coming away with nine gold medals with an overall of six personal best times, even managing to gain all of her 10/11 year old Yorkshire qualifying times. 10 year old Tayla Ross had a great gala setting two new pb’s and gaining four Yorkshire qualifying times. Tayla set a new thirteen second pb in the 200m back, and knocked five seconds off her previous 200m freestyle time.

Maisie Foster,13,had a fantastic first gala of the season. The gala resulted in five out of five PB’s, achieving four Yorkshire qualifying times. Maisie knocked a fantastic nineteen seconds from her 200m breaststroke time, as well as setting new five second pb’s in her 200m IM and 200m free, finishing in 2.31.45. PB’s followed in both the 50m and 200m backstroke, setting a great time of 2.48.71.

Izzy Waudby,12, also had a superb gala. Great performances saw her set five pbs across all her five races. Izzy sliced fourteen seconds from her 200m back to finish in 2.50.52, gaining her Yorkshire qualifying time. Another Yorkshire time followed in the 50m backstroke in a time of 39.49. In a great race Izzy took nine seconds off her previous time in the 200m free, and an amazing eighteen seconds off her 200m IM to finish in 3.05.55.

Anya Betts,12, put in a strong performance in the 200m back finishing in 2.52.60, to confirm her 13 year old spring Yorkshire qualifying time, and in a great effort Anya knocked 4 seconds from her previous 50m breast time. Pb’s followed for Hollie McMullen, who in a great swim knocked five seconds from her 200m breast time to finish in 3.40.29. Hollie achieved a four sec pb in her 200m free, and took one second off in her 200m IM. Lily Tate had a strong gala performance in the first gala back after the summer, achieving a great four second pb in the 200m backstroke.

Six events for Scarlett Lees,10, resulted in four pb’s. In a great swim in the 200m freestyle, Scarlett knocked fourteen seconds from her previous time to finish in 2.57.59. Scarlett knocked six seconds from her 200 back and another three seconds from her 50m breaststroke to finish in 5th place in a time of 48.69.

Junior C Squad

Billy Greenacre had a brilliant day in the 9 year old Group he won gold in the Boys open 200m freestyle with a time of 3:11:11. Then yet another gold in the 50m Freestyle with a time of 39:95 sec and a Yorkshire Qualifying time. He then went on to take silver in the 50m back with a time of 48:02 sec and 200m breast in a time of 4.09:35.

9 year old Emily Rickinson entered her first ever competition, and swam extremely well, she came 4th in the 50m free with a time of 41:62 sec. Took bronze in the the 50m fly in 52:80 sec 7th in the 200m free, 4th in the 50m back in 50:96 sec, and finished in 1.01:06 in the 50m breast in 6th place.

Daniel Pollard, 10, competed in the 10/11 year group. He was 7th in the 50m Backstroke 45:31, 10th in the 50m Freestyle 38:38, and 7th in the 200m Breastroke 4:11:80

Katie fee’s,11, Swam a strong 200m IM and took off a massive 11 seconds followed by a further 5 secs off her 50m breaststroke.

Regional A & B Squad

For the boys, the stand out swimmer was Matthew Dixon,14, who gained massive 16 sec pb’s in his 200m free and 200m back. He also took 6 seconds off his 200m breast, and reduced his 50m free and 50m breast times. Mitchell Davis, 15, continued to build on his successes of last season with p.b’s in 200m free and 200m breast. Kasso Kareem, 15, returned to competition with gold medals in the 50m free & breast. Other medals went to Ethan Kingdom,14, 2nd place in the 50m free. Liam Spence,14, took 2nd in the 200m breast, and Jake Conlon,14, 2nd in the 50m breast. Further personal bests went to Ethan Kingdom in 50m free, 50m back ( and a summer Yorkshire Qualifying time), 50m breast and 200m IM, Edward Scott,14, 200m back, 50m back and 200m IM, Michael Hill,14, 200m free, 50m back and 200m IM. Logan Young, 15, 200 m free, 200m back, 200m breast, 50m fly and 200m IM. John Adams 200m free, 50m free, 200m breast, 50m breast and 200m IM.

The squad’s girls did not disappoint either, with the new girls to the squad making an impressive start. Helen Beales achieved pb’s in 50m free, 200m back and 50m back. Anna Rogerson took 4 seconds off her 200m free, and Katie Nicholson gained 3 personal bests and won 2 bronze medals for the 50m free and 200m back. Hannah and Ruby Willingham also made a fantastic start to the season, with Ruby improving her 200m back and 50m fly times. Medals also went to Melissa Machin 3rd in the 50m fly, Kennedy Akrill 3rd 200m breast, Katy Greenacre 3rd 200m free and 2nd 200m back. But the outstanding swim of the day came from Megan Batterbee 14 who knocked 2 seconds off her personal best for 50m free, earning her the gold medal and an NER qualifying time of 29.88. With no competition from other clubs, the over 16 girls took home some silverware, with Hannah Willingham taking 1st place in the 200m breast, and 200m IM, 2nd place in the 200m free, 1st in the 50m breast and 2nd in the 200m back. Antonia Brittain 3rd in the 200m IM and free. Emma Beadle 2nd 50 breast, 1st 50 free, 3rd 200 breast and 1st 50 fly.

The girls also gained many personal best times, including: Leoni Bull, Melissa Machin, Amy Greenacre, Kennedy Akrill, Megan Batterbee, Maddie Tait, Molly Marritt, Hollie Mendoza, Katy Greenacre, Ruby Willingham and Jolie Bull. Impressive swims were also produced by Abbey Freehally, Emma Newmarch and Natasha Clark.

3 swimmers joined us from Regional B, in a return from injury Emily Tate 15, took 3 seconds off her 200m back, as did Hannah Bird 14. Shona Thurston 13, also returning to competition made good progress towards her times.
