Yorkshire Championships, February 2016. The Championships took place over three weekends during February , KUHSC were well represented with a record number of qualifiers.
Junior A Squad
Callum Willert, 12, performed some impressive swims clinching a PB and Silver medal in the boys 200m Individual Medley (IM) as well as Silver in the 200m Breaststroke event; Gold in the 400m IM; Bronze with PB in the 100m Freestyle final after an excellent swim. Callum also secured PB’s and Bronze medals in the 200m Backstroke and 100m Breaststroke and 5th position in the 200m Freestyle event. Megan Gray, 13, impressed bringing home medals and top 10 finishes including Silver in the 400m and 800m freestyle events; Bronze in the 200m Backstroke; 9th place in the 200m IM; 4th in 200m Freestyle; 4th in the 100m Freestyle final and 7th in the 100m Backstroke final.
Alex Everson, 14, produced some outstanding swims at the Yorkshire championships achieving a Long Course (LC) PB and bronze medal in the 200m Butterfly final in 2.27.61, as well as taking 3rd place and PB in the 200m Backstroke final in 2.28.52. Alex went on to take 6th place in the 100m Backstroke final with new North East Qualifying (NER) time; 7th place & PB in the 100m Butterfly final and 9th place with PB in the 400m Freestyle.
More great performances came from the girls including: Ellie Hextall, 14, who secured Silver and LC PB in 800m Freestyle as well as Bronze medals and PB’s in both 100m and 200m Freestyle: Molly Green, 12, claimed Bronze medals in 100m Breaststroke and 400m Freestyle; 4th place in 200m Breaststroke and top 10 finishes in the 200m and 400m IM events: Frances Luckup, 14, produced a massive 7 second PB in the 400m IM after an exceptional swim finishing in 11th place as well as finishing 4th in the 200m backstroke final: Lily Hawkard, 14, finished with a well-earned Bronze medal in the 200m backstroke final; 5th in the 200m Butterfly final and 8th in the 200m Breaststroke final.
Junior B Squad
10 year old Isobel Hextall had an outstanding 3 weekends swimming. Izzy took 4th place in the 100m freestyle achieving her NER time. Izzy also gained NER times in the 50m freestyle and 50 fly, taking 3rd and 6th places respectively. New pb’s followed in the 200 backstroke (6th place) and the 50m back stroke (9th place). A strong swim in the 400m freestyle resulted in a 5th place finish, then 6th place in the 200m freestyle and 9th in the 100m backstroke.
Izzy Waudby,12, swam a fantastic 100m Backstroke, a 2 second pb gave Izzy a time 1.15.36, taking 7th place and a 10th place finish in the final.
Grace Rispin ,13, set a new time of 1.06.07in the 100m freestyle, taking 7th place in the final and achieving her NER qualifying time.
Anya Betts,12, swam strongly in the 50m backstroke, a 1.5 second pb resulting in a new time of 37.73.
Libby Akrill,12, sliced 1 second from her 50m freestyle time. 11 year old Scarlett Lees gained her 13 year old Yorkshire time in the 50m freestyle, finishing in 33.32, and set a new time of 45.77 in the 50m breaststroke.
In a great swim in the challenging 1500m freestyle Finlay Gowan,13, finish in 5th place in a time of 19.17.53, gaining his NER time. A 4 second pb in the 400m freestyle resulted in 7th place and a second NER time, finishing in 5.02.76. Pbs followed in the 100 freestyle (1.09.16), and the 200m freestyle (2.25.43).
Benjamin Shipley,13, swam in several races. Ben’s best results came in boys 14yrs 100m freestyle with a time of 1.04.14 in the heats and a time of 1.03.88 in the final coming 10th. The 1500m freestyle was another great swim coming 6th with a new time of 19.09.34 taking an amazing 12sec off his previous time.
Josh Wormald ,13, swam in 13 events over the 3 weekends, achieving 8 pb’s. In a fantastic race Josh slashed his previous 400m IM time by 14 seconds to take 10th place. Josh took 5 seconds off his 200m breaststroke and 4 seconds off his 50m breaststroke. Another 5 second pb in the 200m freestyle followed, as well as new times in the 100m breaststroke (1.5 second pb), and the 100m freestyle (1 second pb). In the 50m butterfly Josh sliced 1.5 seconds from his previous time, narrowly missing his NER time by 3 x 100ths of a second.
Ryan Porter aged 12 competed in 8 races and set 8 new pb’s, achieving 7 top 20 places. In the 100m backstroke Ryan swam strongly to take 6th place. Another pb in the 50m backstroke resulted in a 12th place finish.
Teams:
In a brilliant race the girls 11/12 200m freestyle relay team made the final and finished 6th. The team consisted of Libby Akrill, Molly Green, Izzy Hextall and Macie Higinbotham.
Benjamin Shipley and Ryan Porter from junior B, Joe Basdeo-Taylor and Alex Everson from junior A swam in the boys 14yrs team event. In the 200m medley relay they had a time of 2.09.23 in the heats and a fantastic 4th place in the final with a time of 2.08.88. In the 200m freestyle relay, a time of 1.57.71 in the heats and another super 4th place with a time of 1.56.50.
The 9 to 10 year old Junior C girls did KUHSC proud in the Yorkshire Championship Girls 200m Medley Team Relay, and the Girls 200m Freestyle Team Relay. Olivia Mendoza, Emily Rickinson, Amelia Rozenbrook, and Jessica Mccollin, qualified for the finals in both events and finished 10th in the 200m Medley in 3:11:00, and 9th in the 200m Freestyle with 2:42:90.
In the 9 to 10 year old boys relay team, Henri Kingdom, Billy Greenacre, Will Callanan and Leon Walton, made the finals in both 200m Medley and Freestyle
Junior C Squad
In the individual Yorkshire Championships 11 yr old Alister Lovel smashed a 2 sec Pb in the 10/14 Yrs 50m Freestyle with a time of 32.95. 10 year old Daniel Pollard smashed his Pb winning his heat in the 10 years and overs 50m Breastroke in 50.63 and another well-earned Pb in the 50m free. Henri Kingdom, 9, competed in his first Yorkshire Qualifiers and produced some strong swims against tough competition, amongst the 10 year olds he managed 4th place straights in the 100m & 200 back, 50m free, breast, back and fly.
Regional A Squad
Liam Spence,15, produced some outstanding swims he took a massive 15 seconds off his 400m free and an equally impressive 11 seconds off the 200m back stroke. He followed this with a pb in 100m breast stroke, 2 seconds off 200m IM and 3 seconds off 200m free. In the following weekends to follow he continued the success in the 400m I.M. and finished in an impressive time of 5:25.72, he competed in 100m free, 100m back, 200m breast and the 50m Free in a time of 29.08 sec
Ethan Kingdom, 15 also impressed in the 200m0 free, reducing his time by 10 seconds, he finished his 50m free in a Pb time of 29.66 sec and swam his way to a 33.00 sec finish in the 50m fly. Matthew Dixon, 14, impressed in the 50m free and finished in a time of 29.13 sec. Kaso Kareem, 16, swam sub 29 sec in a time of 28.67 sec. Jake Conlon, 14, showed his impressive skills in the 200m free,200m breast, 200m back and 50m breast.
17 year old Hannah Willingham swam in the 200m IM, 100m & 200m breast and 100m back, improving her 100m back time by 3 seconds. Melissa Machin, 16, swam strongly in several events including the 50m free & fly. Jolie Bull, 13, finished the 50m free in a new time of 31.86, Megan Batterbee and Kennedy Akrill, 15, both showed strong swims in the 50m freestyle. Also competing was Alice Carey, 23, she finished the 100m free in a time of 1:04.02.
