British Championships & Summer Nationals Report
This summer saw eight swimmers qualify and attend the British Championships and Summer Nationals.
The championships began with four swimmers Abbie Bowden, Amy Corcoran, Carter Lees and Mason Bland travelling to the SSE Hydro Pool in Glasgow for the British competition.
Abbie Bowden, 17, competing in the 1500m freestyle successfully gained a six second pb in the 17/18 yrs category to finish in 6th place and continued with the 800m freestyle to finish 10th.
Mason bland, 15, clocked some good swims against tough competition in six events across the week, 200m, 400m, 800m and 1500m freestyle along with the 200m backstroke and 400m IM.
Carter Lees, 16, competed in his first British Championships having a strong swim in the 50m breaststroke.
At the Summer National event all eight swimmers Owen Garsides, Ben Shipley, Carter Lees, Mason Bland, Abbie Bowden, Amy Corcoran, Isobel Hextall and Isobel Shimells competed over the week at Ponds Forge International Sports Centre in Sheffield.
Owen Garsides, 17, swimming in two events in the MC category became a double National champion. Swimming the 100m breaststroke he was the fastest qualifier into the final and maintaining his position he finished 1st taking gold in a new pb time of 1.17.95. Owen continued the success in the 100m butterfly giving another outstanding performance to take gold again in a time of 1.04.92.
Abbie Bowden, 17, showed fantastic effort in the open age 200m IM, clocking a new pb time of 2.21.65 which saw her take silver a medal.
Isobel Hextall, 14, successfully qualified for the 200m backstroke final. Giving a gutsy performance she swam her way into second place securing a second silver for the club in a pb time of 2.25.47.
Amy Corcoran, 17, swimming in the 100m butterfly improved her time in the heat to take a place in the final. Amy remained on form improving her time further to take a silver in a time of 1.03.26.
Ben Shipley, 17, qualified for three events. In the gruelling 1500m freestyle he managed to improve his time putting him 9th in a time of 16.15.00. He followed with the 800m freestyle securing 8th place in a time of 8.51.00. Ben finished the championships with a strong swim in the the 400m IM.
Carter Lees,16, competed in the 100m breaststroke securing a 12th place finish.
Isobel Shimells,15,qualified for her first National competition. Swimming in the 200m IM she successfully qualified for the final in a pb time of 2.28.49 and secured a 10th place finish.
Mason Bland, 15, qualified and competed in the the 200m IM and the 50m freestyle. Mason secured a place in the 200m IM final finishing 9th in 2.16.63.
KUHSC swimmers showed that they can compete among the best in the country making the club very proud.
